Maurice de Vlaminck was born in Paris on April 4 18761 and died in Rueil-la-Gadelière (Eure-et-Loir) October 11, 1958, was a French painter is being shown in the Fauvist and Cubist currents. Painter of figures, portraits, nudes, landscapes, animated landscapes, urban, inner landscapes, still lifes, flowers and fruits, painter in the gouache, watercolorist, printmaker, draftsman and illustrator, he is also a writer, publishing twenty-six books: novels , essays and poetry collection.
Her pianist mother and violinist father, Edmond Devlaeminck, emigrated from their native Flanders for France. He spent his childhood in Vésinet Chatou but especially from 1893 to 1905, where he produced his first works. He made his first paintings around 1893, but initially earned his living as a violinist, and sometimes winning bike races. He married in 1896 with Suzanne Berly, with whom he has three daughters. Vlaminck was self-taught, which also refuses to form by copying in museums in order not to lose or fade inspiration.
In 1900 he met André Derain, who remained his friend for life. They also rent a whole studio in Chatou, in the current Levanneur House, which now houses the Cneai (National Edition Art Center Image). This leaves the joint workshop a year later, but it will maintain a continuing relationship epistolary (letters were published Derain Vlaminck but those are lost). Derain Vlaminck found around 1904. This period (1900-1905) remains a financially difficult time for the painter, with a family, and he has to scrape old paint to recover the paintings. Moreover, it was at this time he published two novels in the decadent aesthetic, even pornographic. That said, his true passion remains linked to primitive art and Fauvism.
In 1905, he moved to Rueil-Malmaison, while Derain wins lunch, like many artists of that time. Vlaminck made the choice to stay in Paris, perhaps by taste, but also probably for lack of means. It participates, that year, his first independent show. Vlaminck was one of the painters who created a scandal at the Salon d'Automne of 1905, called "La cage aux Fauves" with Henri Matisse, André Derain and Raoul Dufy. This is also a result of his confrontation with van Gogh that Vlaminck palette brightened to become a burst of pure color straight from the tube. Introduced in 1905 in the third Salon d'Automne, the Restaurant of the machine Bougival accompanies the works of artists who will soon to be termed "wild" by critic Louis Vauxcelles. Ambroise Vollard the art dealer is interested in his work the following year, he bought many paintings and devotes an exhibition in 1908. De Vlaminck also forges ties with Daniel-Henry Kahnweiler, another famous art dealer. He also began a ceramist activity. He made several international exhibitions during these years.
Vlaminck, then having three daughters, is not sent to the front during the First World War. It is affected in a factory in the Paris region. At the end of the conflict, divorce and remarried Combe Berthe, whom he has two daughters: Edwige and Godelieve. He settled in 1925 in Rueil-la-Gadeliere until his death. His wife died in 1974.
